There are simple ways to make life a little more beautiful. You are the captain of your own destiny – don’t make it a miserable ride.
1) If you receive a compliment — pay it forward! When we
receive compliments that feel genuine, it can really brighten our day. If you
feel good, why not make someone else feel good, too? I think Channing has something to say to you:
2) Just do it. Craving a McFlurry? Need to make that dreaded dentist appointment? Can’t find your charger, but need it before you travel
this weekend? When something is fresh on your mind, don’t dwell on it. Get it
done and feel refreshed. Who are you kidding? Once you eat your McFlurry, book
your dentist appointment, and find your charger — you’ll already be craving some
Skittles and realize that you double booked and now can’t find your phone.
3) Wear it! Saving that new shirt for a special day? Isn’t every day of your life special? Stop saving things for special occasions. What happens
when you save that new dress for so long that it no longer fits? Nobody wins,
especially if you don’t follow number 4:
4) Get rid of clutter. Don’t you realize that products go
out of date, too? That hair extension shampoo from three years ago is not good
anymore, even if it cost you $40. Oh, and if that dress doesn’t fit, give it to
someone who can enjoy it. Too much clutter and you might end up on an episode
of Hoarders.
5) Drink more water. Your body will thank you. Just make it
part of your routine, like going to the gym, putting money into your savings
account, and dusting. But really, make it part of your routine, unlike going to
the gym, putting money into your savings account, and dusting.
6) Keep up with the news. It’s so easy these days; you don’t
even have to buy a newspaper. You don’t even have to move from where you’re
seated right now. Pick up your phone, which is most likely within 10 inches of
you right now, and you have access to what’s happening at this very moment
around the world. And no, I don't mean via Facebook. It will keep you in tune with reality, unlike Number 7.
7) Binge-watch TV. Go on — spend 6 hours straight catching up
on episodes of your favorite show. It is satisfying, and at times, can be a
great way to build motivation. Look at all these crumbs all around me. Look at these
bags under my eyes after 6 hours glued to the TV! Must clean! Must find
home-remedy to sooth dark circles. Must jump into action before someone realizes
I have just spent the greater part of the day sitting on the couch doing
nothing!
8) Cut out something you hate from your life. Okay, hate is
a strong word. Cut out something that you can’t stand for another second longer
from your life. Is it a person? A restaurant? A tradition? If you can gradually
start removing things that are detrimental to your happiness, you will be able
to enjoy life that much more.
9) Try to do a random act of kindness every day. Making a
quick trip to the store? Check if the reception in your building wants a
drink/snack. Did someone just leave an umbrella behind? Don’t just ignore it – grab it
and return it to the owner. See someone visibly upset? Check if they are okay. Smile
at a stranger who looks like they need some cheering up. Little gestures go a long
way. And little acts of kindness can bring happiness to your soul.
